Free Web Hosting for Scottish Charities (OSCR Registered)
If your charity is registered in Scotland with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), you're eligible for our charity hosting offer. Scottish charity numbers need to be manually verified on our end, so there are a couple of extra steps involved compared to charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
What's on offer?
Scottish charities can claim either a free Amethyst hosting plan or a 50% discount on any other hosting plan we offer, including Business Hosting and VPS packages. The discount excludes additional licence costs such as cPanel or LiteSpeed.
The free Amethyst plan includes one website, 10GB storage, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited 5GB mailboxes, free SSL, daily backups, and over 200 one-click applications including WordPress. All we ask is that you add a link back to the Krystal website somewhere on your site.
How to sign up for the free Amethyst plan
- Head to https://krystal.io/hosting and order the Amethyst hosting package.
- When you reach the payment stage, select "Bank Transfer" as the payment method. This means no payment is taken at that point.
- Once your account is set up, raise a support ticket so we can verify your charity details and get everything approved. You can do this by going to Support > Open a Ticket in the client area, or head directly to https://krystal.io/client/submitticket.php.
- In the ticket, let us know your charity's name and OSCR charity number (these begin with "SC" followed by six digits, e.g. SC012345).
- We'll verify your details against the Scottish Charity Register and convert the plan to a free charity account.
How to get 50% off a different plan
If the Amethyst plan isn't enough for your needs, you can get 50% off any other hosting plan we offer, including Business Hosting and VPS packages.
- Head to https://krystal.io/hosting and order whichever hosting package suits your needs.
- When you reach the payment stage, select "Bank Transfer" as the payment method. This means no payment is taken at that point.
- Once your account is set up, raise a support ticket by going to Support > Open a Ticket in the client area, or head directly to https://krystal.io/client/submitticket.php.
- In the ticket, let us know your charity's name and OSCR charity number.
- We'll verify your details against the Scottish Charity Register and apply the 50% charity discount to your plan.
Important: account holder requirements
The account will need to be in the name of a director or listed trustee of the charity, as we need to verify that the person setting up the package is officially involved with the organisation. You can check your charity's listed trustees on the OSCR register.
