What is included in Managed VPS

⚖️ Managed vs Unmanaged: What's the Difference?

With an Unmanaged VPS, you get remote access to a clean operating system install and that's it. Everything from that point is your responsibility: setting up software, configuring services, keeping things secure and dealing with anything that goes wrong. We are only responsible for the underlying infrastructure (hardware and physical network faults).

A Managed VPS is one where we take care of the installation, configuration and ongoing administration of the server for you. That covers the key services your site depends on:

  • Web server (Apache or LiteSpeed)
  • Database server (MySQL or MariaDB)
  • Supporting services like email and FTP

The minimum required specs for a Managed VPS is 2 CPU Cores, 4GB RAM and 50GB Storage.

Please note that cPanel is required for managed VPS. If you do not want to use cPanel, you will need to manage the server yourself.

📈 24/7 Monitoring and Proactive Support

One of the core benefits of managed hosting is that someone is always watching. Our team monitors your server around the clock, 365 days a year.

If your web server stops responding at 3am on a Sunday, our team will be alerted and will investigate and resolve the issue. If the server comes under attack, we receive monitoring alerts, start looking into the cause and put mitigations in place as quickly as possible.

Beyond responding to problems, we also proactively patch the operating system and running services to keep your server secure and up to date.

Please note that we do not monitor individual sites, so such issues will need to be reported to us.

What Management Does Not Cover

Our management covers the server and its core services, not the applications running on top of them. Applications like WordPress or Joomla are your responsibility (or your developer's). We make sure the platform is stable, secure and properly configured, but anything within the application itself falls outside of what we manage.

👨‍💻 Third-Party Software

We can install any software officially supported by cPanel. Some popular examples include Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch and LiteSpeed. If you're unsure whether something you need is supported, just get in touch and we'll let you know.

☎️ Out-of-Hours Emergency Support

If you have an urgent issue outside of normal hours, we have a dedicated emergency phone line. You can call the main Krystal support number and enter the emergency pin (displayed in your client area) when asked for it.
